Moving dangerous goods (related to their transport)

As part of the transport and storage of dangerous goods, the handling chemicals requires additional precautions that take into account the particularities of dangerous substances or mixtures.

Compliance with the rules of good technique is the first step, to which should at least follow operations in accordance to predetermined procedures, with adequately trained operators, through the use of appropriate means of transportation and specific equipment and proper methods of slinging the loads; these precautions are necessary to ensure an appropriate degree of safety in dangerous goods.ì handling.

Even the loading and unloading operations must be carried out safely according to predetermined operating sequences in relation to the characteristics of the load and of the mode of transportation of the same, and also following, where appropriate, the instructions for specific activities by the relevant Authorities.

Finally, during the storage of dangerous goods, should be avoided the mixing of dangerous with non-dangerous goods, and provide for the separation of those goods also taking into considertazion the compatibility between the substances or mixtures (e.g. acids and bases). You should also consider the presence of any agents with unknown dangerous properties or not clearly labeled, and proceed to the storage in separately from other goods.

Nell'ambito del trasporto e dello stoccaggio dei merci pericolose, la movimentazione degli agenti pericolosi richiede cautele aggiuntive che tengano conto delle peculiarità delle sostanze o miscele pericolose.

L’osservanza delle norme di buon tecnica è il primo passo, cui dovrebbero seguire almeno operazioni secondo modalità prestabilite, con operatori adeguatamente formati, mediante utilizzo di idonei mezzi di trasporto e di attrezzature specifiche e corrette modalità di imbracatura del carico; tutte queste cautele sono atte a garantire un idoneo grado di sicurezza della movimentazione del carico di merci pericolose.

Anche le operazioni di carico e scarico devono essere eseguite in modo sicuro secondo sequenze operative prestabilite in relazione alle caratteristiche del carico e alle modalità di trasporto dello stesso, ed inoltre seguendo, se il caso, le indicazioni fornite per specifiche attività dagli enti preposti.

Infine in fase di stoccaggio delle merci, occorre evitare che le merci pericolose si mischino a quelle non pericolose, e si dovrà provvedere alla separazione delle stesse anche tenendo in considerazione la compatibilità reciproca tra le sostanze o miscele (es. acidi e basi). Si dovrà altresì considerare la presenza di eventuali agenti con caratteristiche di pericolosità non note o non chiaramente etichettati, e procedere allo stoccaggio in maniera separata dalle altre merci.

L'incompatibilità tra agenti chimici dovrebbe essere presa in considerazione in fase di pianificazione delle aree di stoccaggio.
